Working in porcelain, Tanya Gomez uses a range of approaches in her throwing to create forms that capture qualities of fluidity, movement and a sense of space, inspired by the dramatic landscapes and diverse qualities of the sea. Through a process of energetic making and rigorous selection she observes how the clay works to find new ways to go forward. Her larger vessels are thrown in parts and assembled to produce huge surfaces that are animated through the throwing and glazing. The forms have an impact both individually, and as a group, when they create vivid landscapes and fluid architectural forms filled with rhythm, balance, tension and colour.
Tanya Gomez is a celebrated ceramicist renowned for her porcelain vessels in her signature lustrous colours.
With an MA in Ceramics from the Royal College of Art, her process is practice led. Developed from traditional methods and disciplines Gomez has honed her skills over the last 15 years and uses dynamic throwing, cutting and assembling techniques to create large cylindrical shapes.
As a master in her craft, Gomez’s contemporary and original work is recognised by collectors and museums. She has gained much acclaim exhibiting internationally and continues to evolve her style, experimenting and pushing her practice.
