Jonathan Wade’s pieces are wheel thrown and coiled in porcelain. Each vessel is covered by repeated elements, meticulously and individually applied to the surface by hand. Wade’s current focus is on experimenting with thick surface glazes over stylized textures.
Jonathan Wade’s recent work takes him away from investigating composite constructions to exploring relationships between the aspects of simplified shapes. With form not taking the lead, he concentrates on the surface of his objects and experiments with thick glazes over stylised and random textures, as well as scale.
Playing with scale feeds Wade’s interest in the viewer’s interaction with an object and how objects themselves influence our passage through the world.
