Exploring monumental form on a miniature scale through combinations of digital and physical process, the glass sculpture I make offers fresh perspectives on the world we inhabit. ‘Hortus Conclusus’ connects with the extraordinary things we grow and that inhabit our gardens. Subtle and humorous references to the often eccentric results of human interaction with nature are developed.
Mixing together CAD, 3D printing and hand making methods connects across 4,000 years of continuous glass making history. This results in original forms structures and surfaces which have a unique blend of qualities merging characteristics of found, made and grown elements that could not have been made by hand alone and have an other-worldly, surreal sensibility.
