Hendrike Barz-Meltzer
This elegant brooch (a one-off piece) was the first part of my 2022 collection Interrupted Patterns and was inspired by a visit to the British museum. You can read the whole story behind this piece in my February Blog.
The brooch is currently part of a touring exhibition of the Association for Contemporary Jewellery where it can be seen in a variety of locations until June 2023.
The front part of the silver brooch is heavily textured and curves gently towards the back. It is decorated with a leaf pattern, using 24ct (fine) gold foil in the ancient technique of Keum-Boo. The pattern is reminiscent of the decorations on ancient Greek ceramics and the word 'Elpis' is stamped beneath.
