Inspired by the creative potential of integrating digital technologies into traditional craft-making processes, Katherine Hinton and Sheng Zhang create minimalist pieces of metalwork. Katherine Hinton's faceted metal bowls and boxes evolved from a process of creative and technological experimentation. She combines the ancient handicraft of lost wax casting with technological innovations from industrial manufacturing processes, using 3D printing to create moulds and computer numerically controlled (CNC) milling to texture her faceted surfaces. Each piece is a celebration of both the old and the new.

Sheng Zhang's futuristic vessels allude to minimalist sculpture and the built environment, echoing the shapes of a skyline. Seamlessly combining digital technologies with traditional metalworking, Zhang's works move between function and aesthetics. This focus on clean, unfussy design is seen in Joel Degen's designs, whose longstanding fascination with titanium has led him to become an expert on manipulating the material. Marrying industrial design with jewellery design, Degen describes his pieces as 'constructions', alluding to his carefully considered and innovative approach to building jewellery out of unorthodox materials and techniques. These clean shapes are echoes in Noon Mitchellhill's work, whose pared-back silver cufflinks bring some refined elegance to any suit.
