MICHELLE HOUSE

Unique Textile Works

New works added to our website.

Michelle House is an established artist and designer with a passion for print and colour.

She works from her studio and home in South London.

Using textile screen-printing techniques and painting she creates one-off pieces in the form of wall-hangings and textile panels for exhibitions and commissions.
Dyes and pigments are printed and painted by hand onto fabrics such as linen, cotton and wool. Photography, drawing and hand-cut stencils all play a role when creating a new piece.

Michelle discovered her love of print whilst studying at Goldsmiths College where she gained her degree in fine art textiles. She was awarded the prestigious ‘Setting Up Grant’ by the Crafts Council and later went on to study digital fine art at Tower Hamlets college. Around the same time, she took an Artists’ in Education course, which resulted in several art residencies within primary schools. She has since taught textile printing at the Sackler Centre for Art Education within Dulwich Picture Gallery.
Having seen Michelle’s work at Contemporary Applied Arts, Sir Nicholas Goodison recommended to the British Academies Art Committee that they should commission her to make two large wall-hangings. Her work is now part of their impressive art collection and hangs at the British Academy in Carlton House Terrace, St James.
