We are very pleased to present two new works by Gabriele Koch alongside some of her older pieces, available now in our Marylebone gallery and online.
Gabriele's practice is fuelled by the elemental qualities of ceramics - the interplay of fire and earth, the rough joy of handbuilding - and the ancient human connection to ceramics, which embody shared rituals and histories in the form of a vessel. Each piece is characterised by a meeting of elements, fusing the ancient and the modern in works that combine stoneware and porcelain.
Her journey to ceramics began with the landscape of Spain, the earthen palette ranging from pale neutrals to deep ochre still haunting her works today. Enjoying the interplay between materials, her new works bring together stoneware and porcelain to create soft flecks of colour and texture on the vessels' surface which recall the sky and the moon, bringing the elemental earthly quality of clay into communion with the celestial realm. She works exclusively by handbuilding, each vessel imbued with both with the natural world and the human impulse towards creation.
Gabriele's work is housed in private and public collections worldwide and presents an opportunity to own museum-quality work which is testament to the primal potential of clay.
