Alison White's new scarf collection"Patch" is now in the gallery.
She has shared with us her inspiration for the development of these fabulous new pieces.
"The new design came about from a visit to SOAS to see an exhibition of Japanese recycled and patched work garments and objects. Fabrics and other materials were reassembled and patched together for functional purposes and possibly in many cases without consideration to the aesthetic outcome, was fascinating and truly beautiful as a result.
This inspired me to develop a design that consisted of random shapes and marks combining hard edged geometric shapes with painterly strokes. This contrast is something I like to focus on in many of my designs.
My designs always start with sketched notebook ideas,I then work onto paper the same size as the intended scarf by collaging, drawing etc. Once I feel happy with the result I then reproduce the design on the computer and it is sent off to be printed."
