Vicki Ambery-Smith in Conversation with Corinne Julius

Join us at Collect Art Fair Friday 1 March 1pm

In addition to the wonderful CAA work on display during Collect Art Fair, we will also be hosting a conversation with design critic Corinne Julius in which silversmith Vicki Ambery-Smith elaborates on her design process, the whimsy of English folly buildings, and the universal allure of miniatures.

Vicki Ambery-Smith’s architectural jewellery and objects continually delight and entertain, earning her an international reputation. During her acclaimed career, she has developed into a style which draws on influences as diverse as ancient Greece and Renaissance Italy to contemporary Europe and America. The follies exhibited at Collect are all based on real places chosen by Vicki for a group of small boxes for their quirky British eccentricity. After close observation, she manipulates the dimensions, edits details to essentials and uses a trompe l’oeil effect to capture the essence of a building.

Corinne Julius is a renowned journalist and curator who has contributed widely to contemporary craft over the years, featuring on Woman’s Hour, Front Row, the Evening Standard’s Homes & Property, Crafts, and Country Life. Corinne trained at the Royal College of Art and Sheffield University and was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Art in 2008 for services to design and craft.

She is a guest lecturer at a number of arts universities including the Royal College of Art, Central St Martin’s and the Sotheby’s MA in Decorative Arts. She works closely with makers and designers, has judged for many craft and design awards and curated exhibitions such as  Silver Speaks: Idea to Object a show of Contemporary British Silver at the V&A; Bloomin’ Jewels, a contemporary jewellery show at CAA and is the founder-curator of one of the country’s major contemporary craft shows, Future Heritage at Decorex.

Please join us on Friday 1st March 1pm at CAA's stand S5.
