ROOTS brings together the work of a group of makers who have shaped wood into objects of beauty, utility and quiet permanence across the late twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Spanning innovative jewellery, finely crafted furniture and sculptural vessels, the exhibition explores the enduring relationship between material, hand and time.

Wood is a living medium. Marked by grain, growth and age, each piece carries the history of the tree from which it came. Unlike many materials, wood continues to respond to its environment long after it has been worked, deepening in colour, softening with touch, shifting subtly with light, temperature and use. These works are not static objects, but pieces that evolve alongside the lives around them.

The exhibition celebrates both innovation and heritage: contemporary makers pushing the boundaries of form sit alongside works grounded in traditional techniques passed through generations. Across scales and disciplines, the artists and craftspeople represented here reveal wood’s remarkable versatility, from delicate, tactile adornment to timeless furniture and vessels that draw out the material’s innate warmth and character.

The show runs at the gallery from 2 June to 27 June. Learn more and view available works here.
