The Many Shapes of Joy Exhibition | 29th September - 17th September

Contemporary Applied Arts presents The Many Shapes of Joy, a solo show by French-born, UK based ceramicist Laurance Simon, featuring a new body of hand-built and hand-painted works created exclusively for the exhibition.

 At the heart of Simon's practice is a simple but powerful idea: that everyday life can be made richer through beauty, humour and imagination. Drawing on early encounters with surrealism, her ceramics transform familiar domestic objects into unexpected little worlds. A candelabra becomes a resting place for a sleepy hare; a vessel becomes a landscape; animals and plants emerge as characters within an imagined universe. Simon invites us to look at functional objects with fresh eyes. Her work occupies the space between sculpture, painting and the domestic object, creating pieces that are both beautifully crafted and emotionally engaging. 

Originally from France, Simon has been working in London for the past 20 years and has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally. Her distinctive ceramics have attracted a growing following of collectors, drawn to the combination of craftsmanship and storytelling that characterises her work.
